One part of the remodeling project was a new rear entry to the home by converting the backyard covered porch into an enclosed mudroom.  The mudroom was designed to replaced the existing landing of the covered porch, which was enclosed by a masonry block kneewall. To complete the transformation, the original landing and staircase were demolished, as well as the porch wingwalls. New stud walls were built on the masonry block kneewalls to enclose the new living space. The new walls were sided with 5 1/4 inch v-groove vertical wood siding to match the existing wingwalls. The first part of deck construction consisted of pouring concrete footings for masonry block walls and concrete cap to provide enclosure for the stairs and landing. Next, the foudnation for the stairs and landing were built from treated lumber. The deck surface was made from composite deck board supplied by Azek Building Products.
